Brecon residents will soon be rewarded for recycling, thanks to introducing Brecon"s unique Scan|Recycle|Reward recycling scheme which will be launchedon July 13. It joins a slew of other nations, notably several in Europe, that already provide monetary incentives for specific forms of recycling. The recycling program will accept soft drinks in aluminium and steel cans (50ml to 3l containers only), PET plastic bottles, etc.The 12-week study, run by the Digital Deposit Return Scheme Alliance in collaboration with the Welsh Government, Powys County Council, and local shops, will examine how digital technology may promote increased recycling in Brecon. The Scan|Recycle|Reward experiment will begin this month, with welcome kits coming in the mail on July 13 for Brecon residents."This trial will help us understand people"s preferred return options for recycling these drinks containers and help us learn more about recycling behaviour. This will be the first time anywhere in the world that a whole town will use this new technology and the findings will be analysed and shared with the rest of the UK, putting Brecon at the forefront of recycling innovation," stated Councillor Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys.Retailers are being advised to keep an eye out for suitable items that have a unique QR code. Soft drinks, bottled water, fruit and vegetable juices (long life), milk and milk substitutes (long life), breakfast drinks (long life), single serving juices, smoothies, chilled dairy drinks, energy and vitamin drinks, and mixers such as tonic and soda water are examples."From July 13 every eligible household in Brecon will start to receive their Scan|Recycle|Reward welcome pack through the post. Although completely voluntary, we are hoping that as many people as possible join in with this exciting trial and benefit from the cash rewards on offer. For every container scanned and recycled correctly, participants will have the choice to "cash in" their reward or donate it to the Brecon Food Bank and the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, our two nominated local charities," added Jackie Charlton.Participants in the trial will be able to earn cash prizes by scanning uniquely tagged drink containers with their phones before returning them at home, via their regular kerbside recycling collection, or at different "on the go" return sites throughout town. The distinctively marked drink containers will be available for purchase at Brecon stores.Minister for Climate Change, Julie James added, “I am grateful to Powys County Council and the Digital Deposit Return Scheme Alliance who have led on the development and implementation of this trial. Most importantly a massive thank you to the people of Brecon, as their involvement and engagement is what will make this pilot a successful and an invaluable learning experience, which will help shape the roll-out of a Deposit Return Scheme across Wales,”关键词:
